Legacy CPU Card Repair, Replacement & Testing
Embedded Repair Labs supports the evaluation, repair, replacement, sourcing, and functional testing of legacy CPU cards used in industrial computers, passive-backplane systems, PICMG platforms, ISA/PCI chassis, rackmount PCs, automation systems, test equipment, data acquisition platforms, operator stations, and long-life mission-critical environments.

A CPU card is a plug-in processor board used in many industrial computer systems. In these systems, the CPU card may contain the processor, chipset, BIOS, memory, storage interfaces, display output, network ports, serial ports, and other core computing functions, while the backplane provides expansion slots and system interconnection. Depending on the equipment, a CPU card may also be called a slot SBC, PICMG CPU board, processor board, single board computer, or system host board. Because CPU cards are often tied to specific backplanes, chassis, expansion cards, operating systems, drivers, and application software, repair or replacement should be reviewed carefully before substitution.
CPU Card Types We Support
PICMG CPU Cards
Support for legacy PICMG CPU cards used in passive-backplane industrial computers, rackmount systems, machine-control platforms, and long-life equipment.
ISA / PCI CPU Cards
Support for CPU cards used with ISA, PCI, PCI-X, or mixed-slot industrial backplanes and installed expansion cards.
Industrial Slot SBCs
Support for slot single board computers used in automation systems, test stations, data acquisition systems, operator workstations, and embedded control platforms.
Legacy Processor Cards
Support for discontinued or obsolete CPU cards where chipset, BIOS, memory, I/O, backplane, and software compatibility must be reviewed.
When a CPU Card Fails
A failed or unstable CPU card can prevent the entire industrial computer or machine from starting or operating correctly. The issue may appear as no power, failed POST, BIOS errors, no display, memory detection failure, storage detection problems, Ethernet faults, serial communication loss, backplane communication failure, expansion-card recognition problems, overheating, intermittent shutdowns, or operating-system instability. In many legacy systems, the CPU card must remain compatible with the backplane, installed cards, BIOS settings, drivers, and application software.
Power, Boot, or BIOS Failure
The CPU card may fail to power on, complete POST, retain BIOS settings, detect memory, recognize storage, initialize display output, or load the operating system.
Backplane, I/O, or Expansion Problems
ISA, PCI, PCI-X, PCIe, Ethernet, serial, storage, display, or installed expansion-card interfaces may stop working correctly.
Obsolete or Compatibility-Sensitive Platform
The original CPU card may be discontinued, revision-sensitive, or difficult to replace without checking chipset, BIOS, memory, slot type, backplane, drivers, and software requirements.
Where CPU Cards Are Used
CPU cards are commonly used in industrial systems where modular expansion, serviceability, and long-term hardware continuity are important. These systems may include factory automation equipment, machine-control platforms, CNC-related systems, test and measurement equipment, data acquisition systems, process-control systems, rackmount industrial PCs, operator stations, transportation systems, and specialized OEM machines.
Industrial Automation & Machine Control
Used in systems where the CPU card runs machine software, communicates with I/O hardware, and supports installed control or communication cards.
Test, Measurement & Data Acquisition
Used in platforms that depend on stable processing, expansion cards, storage, communication interfaces, and legacy operating-system support.
Rackmount & Backplane-Based Systems
Used in chassis-based industrial computers where the CPU card, backplane, power supply, and installed cards must work together.
How Embedded Repair Labs Can Help
Evaluation Review
We review the CPU card part number, symptoms, photos, board revision, chipset, BIOS, memory configuration, operating system, backplane or chassis details, installed cards, and system application.
Repair Support
Where practical, we support repair paths for failed, unstable, intermittent, or damaged CPU cards.
Replacement Guidance
If repair is not practical, we help identify compatible replacement options, equivalent CPU cards, slot SBCs, backplanes, or alternate sourcing paths.
Functional Testing
Where applicable, repaired or supplied CPU cards are checked for startup, recognition, and functional behavior before return.
Before You Send a CPU Card Request
For faster review, include the CPU card part number, manufacturer, board revision, fault symptoms, chassis or backplane information, operating system, memory configuration, installed ISA/PCI/PCIe cards, slot layout, BIOS requirements, power requirements, and clear photos of the CPU card, backplane, and chassis. If the card is obsolete or unavailable, include any required chipset, driver, software, backplane, or expansion-card compatibility requirements.
